See Your Dentist to Find out the Real Cause for Your Tooth Pain

Tooth pain can be due to various reasons. And the pain can also be felt differently according to various reasons. The most common reasons are decay, gum disease, and tooth sensitivity. The major causes of toothache are as follows:

Crack in tooth

Cracked teeth are common and can cause pain when biting into foods or when pressure is placed on them. If you’ve cracked your tooth, it’s best to see your dentist as soon as possible to have it repaired. Your dentist will be able to treat the crack with a filling or dental crown.

A cracked tooth can also be a sign that you are grinding your teeth at night. Teeth grinding can lead to jaw pain and headaches if left untreated. Talk to your dentist if you think you may be suffering from tooth grinding.

Broken tooth

A broken tooth does not necessarily mean that the tooth is completely knocked out of its socket. If the tooth is chipped, cracked, or worn down from grinding, it can still be saved and restored with a dental crown. The crown will cover the compromised part of the tooth and restore its strength and stability.

Even if you feel no pain, it is important to get a broken or chipped tooth treated right away. Leaving the damage untreated can lead to worsening decay or other oral health issues. Plus, broken teeth can be embarrassing and uncomfortable, making eating and talking difficult. You may be tempted to put off treatment to avoid potentially painful procedures, but getting a restoration as soon as possible will help to minimize discomfort.

If you are already in pain, your dentist will use anesthesia during your procedure so that you don’t feel any pain or discomfort during your appointment. Your dentist may also prescribe pain medication following your procedure to help ease your pain.

Abscessed tooth

An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth, which can form when a cavity is left untreated or after a cracked or chipped tooth is exposed to bacteria in the mouth. The infection can cause swelling of the gums and redness around your tooth, as well as pain when you bite down on the tooth or even touch it with your tongue. In extreme cases, this infection can spread to the jaw and cause life-threatening complications. If you have a sore tooth and suspect it might be an abscessed tooth, see your dentist right away for treatment.

Impacted wisdom teeth

If your dentist has told you that you have impacted wisdom teeth, then you must get them extracted as soon as possible. Impacted wisdom teeth develop when there is not enough room for your third molars to come into your mouth naturally. Your dentist will extract the wisdom teeth during your appointment because they are causing you pain and increasing your risk of an infection or abscess.

If you ignore developing symptoms from impacted teeth, then you may suffer from serious infections and even cause permanent damage to your teeth and jaw. This is why it’s so important to see your dentist right away if you have symptoms of impacted wisdom teeth.
